چکیده

It has been known for many years that an excess of thrombin is formed during the clotting of blood or plasma, that the excess is rapidly inactivated, and that such inactivation is important in maintaining normal fluidity of the blood (1). Considerable attention has been given to the question of what happens to the excess of thrombin, but little conclusive information has been obtained concerning the phenomenon. Quick, in a study of the mode of action of heparin in preventing coagulation, obtained evidence supporting the opinion of early workers that the property of inactivating thrombin resides in the plasma protein,

The Effect of Methylene Blue in Combination with Red Visible Light on Model Viruses Inactivation and Coagulation Factors in Fresh Frozen Plasma

Background and Aims: Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) is one of blood components. The risk of transmission of viruses from blood components regardless selection of blood donors and screening donated blood still remains. There are several methods for viral inactivation. In this study methylene blue (MB) photo inactivation process was used for inactivating viruses. Materials and Methods: In this study M...

Efficacy of a New Autologus Platelet Gel: in Vitro Study

Abstract Background Autologus platelet gel is easy to prepare and is relatively low cost. The aim of this study was to prepare and evaluate in vitro efficacy of autologus platelet gel. Materials and Methods In this experimental study, platelet concentrate and platelet poor plasma were prepared with aphaeresis method. Thrombin was prepared by mixing the plasma with calcium. Thrombin activity...

Anticoagulant synergism of heparin and activated protein C in vitro. Role of a novel anticoagulant mechanism of heparin, enhancement of inactivation of factor V by activated protein C.

Interactions between standard heparin and the physiological anticoagulant plasma protein, activated protein C (APC) were studied. The ability of heparin to prolong the activated partial thromboplastin time and the factor Xa- one-stage clotting time of normal plasma was markedly enhanced by addition of purified APC to the assays. Experiments using purified clotting factors showed that heparin en...

Further characterization of ADAMTS-13 inactivation by thrombin

BACKGROUND The multimeric size and platelet-tethering function of von Willebrand factor (VWF) are modulated by the plasma metalloprotease, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with a thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS-13). In vitro ADAMTS-13 is susceptible to proteolytic inactivation by thrombin. OBJECTIVES In this study, we aimed to characterize the inactivation of ADAMTS-13 by th...

Inactivation of Gram-Negative Bacteria by Low-Pressure RF Remote Plasma Excited in N2-O2 Mixture and SF6 Gases

The role of low-pressure RF plasma in the inactivation of Escherichia coli O157, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter sakazakii using N2-O2 and SF6 gases was assessed. 1×109 colony-forming units (CFUs) of each bacterial isolate were placed on three polymer foils. The effects of pressure, power, distance from the source, and exposure time to plasma gases were optimized. The...
